Hitachi Reciprocating Compressor POB-CH

On May 21, 2025, after a routine shutdown, the system experienced an overload trip upon restart on May 23. The motor failed to rotate. Upon inspecting the starter cabinet, it was discovered that the thyristor had burned out. After replacing the thyristor and attempting to restart, the system once again tripped due to overload—but this time, the motor did start rotating, while the compressor side exhibited excessively high vibration levels. On May 24, further inspection revealed that the diaphragm-type coupling connecting the compressor to the speed increaser gearbox had fractured. By May 25, a thorough examination of the speed increaser gearbox, compressor, and motor showed no signs of mechanical transmission abnormalities. However, at 6:00 PM on May 25, when the coupling between the speed increaser and the compressor side was disconnected, the unit still tripped on overload during startup.
