Major Overhaul Case

Ingersoll-Rand 4R2MSGE-16RC/15

Model:

Ingersoll-Rand 4R2MSGE-16RC/15

Issue:

Axis vibrations at stages 1, 2 and 4 were abnormally high, reaching up to 36 microns. Meanwhile, the oil temperature soared to 65.7°C (exceeding the normal range).

On-site condition:

The gearbox was disassembled and inspected; all bearing clearances at each stage were found to be excessively large, with noticeable wear on the bearing pads. Additionally, three guide vanes of the fourth-stage diffuser were missing, and 12 outlet blades of the fourth-stage impeller showed clear signs of deformation caused by impact from foreign objects.

Maintenance plan:

Perform dynamic balancing checks on the high- and low-speed rotors, replace bearings at each stage, overhaul the fourth-stage diffuser, and repair the fourth-stage impeller. Re-adjust the clearance between impellers at all stages. Conduct a main shaft alignment inspection. The oil cooler showed severe scaling, so it was promptly replaced.

Result:

After commissioning and test operation, vibrations at all stages remained below 20 microns, with an oil temperature of 46°C. The air circuit system is operating stably.
